Tips for Measuring

We appreciate that there can be uncertainty purchasing online with sizing, if you ensure that you know your pets measurements and measure correctly you can be pretty confident to typically get the sizing right. Below is how to measure and where to measure your pet. You should record it and always check size charts prior to purchase as pet sizing is not standard and different manufacturers use different size charts.

Sizing

Please note that the sizing for each and every product is mentioned in the listing and information for that product. Pet sizing is not standard so every manufacturer uses a different sizing system so a size Medium in one product will not be the same as a size Medium in another if it comes from a different manufacturer.  We also stock a range of handmade products and there is variation in these items from one to another as they are handmade but this is always minimal.

You really must take the basic measurements of your pet to shop for them successfully. All our harnesses are adjustable at both the chest and neck points (no reversible styles that can't have neck adjustment make our cut) so if you know these and measure allowing an additional 2-3cms for comfort in your measurements you will find that our size charts are very accurate.  We also mention if a product has no stretch, minimal stretch or is very stretchy or if it would not suit certain breeds too so you can determine if it is going to fit your pet.  Recommended breed sizes are just that, recommendations, as even within breeds there are so many variants on size. If you find a size is recommended for your breed but the measurements of your pet don't add up - go by your measurements not the recommendation.  If you are faced with deciding over neck or chest measurements - allow for the largest - which is typically the chest.

Neck measurements are taken where the collar typically sits and chest measurement behind the front legs at the widest point around the barrel of the body same way you measure a humans chest measurement for clothing.

I commonly find that people get the sizing wrong because they do not know HOW to measure their pet - where to measure and both are essential to getting the sizing right so please see our Tips for the Best Fit Section above with diagrams on where and how to measure your pet.  Write down the measurements and text them to yourself and you'll never be anywhere and not able to work out if something will fit your pet. If your pet has a long body (or short one) check lengths of garments as well and work out where they will come to on their back and their front.  Front measurements can be particularly important for males, if a top is too long on them for example they will end up peeing on it every time they go toilet.

Some products, such as shoes are a little tricky sometimes to get right, but don't worry if you get the size wrong as long as they are unused, unworn and undamaged we are happy to exchange them for another size but can't cover the postage costs.  See our Returns and Exchanges Policy for more information if the sizing is incorrect to ease your mind that you can shop with confidence and if something isn't right, exchange it if you make a mistake in the sizing.
